Servicing Antarctica

<< BACK TO CAPABILITIES >>

HELICOPTERS (AUSTRALIA) served Antarctica between 1995 and 2000.

During this period HELICOPTERS (AUSTRALIA) was contracted by the Australian Antarctic Division to supply AS350 Squirrel and Sikorsky S76 helicopter transport services. During this period, up to five helicopters had been operated on behalf of the Antarctic Division conducting a variety of tasks including sling load replenishments from supply vessels onto Heard Island and Macquarie Island in the sub-Antarctic. The helicopters, pilots and engineers spent the summer seasons (September to early May) based on the Antarctic continent providing transport and logistical support to various scientific programs. The operations covered a vast area involving flights up to 800nm between the various Australian bases at Casey, Davis and Mawson as well as the Chinese and Russian stations of Zhong Shan, Progress II and Mirny. These Antarctic operations proved the company's ability to perform to rigorous professional standards and achieve excellent reliability from the equipment supplied and operated in this isolated and extremely harsh environment.

Whilst HELICOPTERS (AUSTRALIA) is not currently contracted in Antarctica we have instant access to a vast amount of current expertise from our parent company. HELICOPTERS are the World's most experienced Antarctic Helicopter Operator. They have the experience to get there and do the job efficiently and safely. Whether it is by ship and/or air or any of Antarctica's stopping off points, New Zealand, South America, South Africa or Australia they can and have done it.

HELICOPTERS initial expedition in 1979 was to provide two Hughes 500D helicopters on behalf of the Federal Republic of West Germany. The principal area of interest was North Victoria Land and the base of operations was the North Sea support vessel "Schepelsturm".

HELICOPTERS has been actively involved in Antarctica since this time and they have provided Helicopter support for both Government and Private Expeditions. To see their full Antarctica History simply click here.
